HOW CAN I MAKE A DIFFERENCE?

The simple answer is to "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle". By improving each step of the process you can make a positive change to the environment, ultimately leading to a cleaner, greener, more sustainable world for future generations. 

REDUCE

  • the use of single use plastics

  • your water and electricity consumption

  • purchasing products with excessive or non-recyclable plastics

REUSE

  • items such as cardboard boxes and repurpose plastic bottles (there are hundreds of alternatives)

  • plastic shopping packets or buy reusable shopping bags 

  • grey water to water your garden 

RECYCLE

  • and educate yourself on what can be recycled

WHAT CAN BE RECYCLED?

In the perfect, world majority of products would be recyclable. However, there is still a wide variety of items that you use daily which can be recycled. The main products are certain plastic, paper, glass and cans. Speak to us to find out whether specific items are recyclable or visit the 'What is Recyclable" page.

Individuals often believe all types of plastic are recyclable. This is referred to as 'Wish Recycling'. Not all plastics are recyclable and some materials are not recyclable due to limited technology currently available. Contact us to check whether an item is actually recyclable in South Africa.

WHAT DOES THE RECYCLING NUMBER MEAN?

The Recycling number found on most plastics is an indication of the resins the plastic is manufactured from. The number is a resin identification number. The numbers indicate the plastic is made from the following plastic resins:

  1. PET (Polyethylene terephthalate)

  2. HDPE ( High-density polyethylene)

  3. PVC (Polyvinyl Chloride)

  4. LDPE (Low-density polyethylene)

  5. PP (Polypropylene)

  6. PS (Polystyrene) 

  7. Other (A mixture of plastics which isn't recyclable)

WHAT TYPE OF MATERIALS DOES BRS ACCEPT?

BRS only accepts certain products, specifically when it comes to plastics. For more information visit the 'What Is Recyclable' page.

HOW CAN I SIGN UP TO YOUR PICK-UP ROUTE?

If you live in a gated community or estate then  BRS can assist you and your community with recycling. Contact us and we will get back to you regarding recycling in your neighbourhood.

DO YOU PROVIDE RECYCLING BINS?

Depending on the type of service (neighbourhood, offices etc.), we have a variety of recycling solutions from bags to skips which will best suit your needs. Contact us for more information.

DO I NEED TO REMOVE STAPLES FROM PAPER?

You do not need to remove staples from paper.

DO I NEED TO SORT GLASS BASED ON THE COLOUR?

Your glass does not need to be sorted into separate colours.

DO I HAVE TO REMOVE LABELS FROM TIN AND PLASTIC BOTTLES?

It is not necessary to remove the labels from tins or plastic bottles
